Coro Femenino Cantate - Heredia, Costa Rica

Cantate is one of the most recent and successful choral projects in Costa Rica. An important number of the singers are trained in Concordia Coral Children’s Choir previously and have studied an instrument and read music. These abilities allow the ensemble to work at the highest level with challenging projects.

Josué Ramírez, is the founder and current conductor. He is a Costa Rican choral conductor, pianist, and international adjudicator whose performances have taken him across around the world, earning top prizes in international choir competitions. As part of the professional piano duet “Dúo Appassionato,” he has performed in the U.S. and Germany, making his Carnegie Hall debut in July 2024 after winning first prize in the Golden Classical Music Awards. A tenured professor at Universidad Nacional, he teaches choral conducting, leads the University Choir, and coordinates the Piano for Choral Conductors program. He also conducts Cantate Female Choir, serves as pianist for El Café Chorale, and assists with Coro Intermezzo at Instituto Costarricense Pro Música Coral. Holding multiple degrees in piano and choral conducting, including a Fulbright-Laspau-funded Master’s from the University of Louisville, he is also an active choral arranger dedicated to preserving Costa Rican traditional music.
