Sta. Teresa College Cherubim ~ Philippines
The Sta. Teresa College ( formerly St. Theresa’s Academy ) high school department choir known as The STC Cherubim was founded several years ago as a church choir. It was only in 1994 when the school decided to join various competitions and the Cherubim first competition was the Division level Sayawit. It recieved first place and eventually represented the Batangas Division in the First Regional Sayawit where the group won the Best Dance Award, placed third over-all and has never been defeated in the high school category in the Division of Batangas since then.
In the national scene, the STC Cherubim represented Calabarzon in the National Finals of National Music Competitions for Young Artists in 2005, and recently, was awarded Gold III and eventually won the championship in the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod VII held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last June 2009.
The STC Cherubim held its two-day concert dubbed as “Musika ‘Yan!” in 1995 and the Sanduloy: Sulyap sa Kulturang Pinoy 1 and 2 in 1999 and 2008 respectively. The group has its national television exposure in Paco Park Presents and Evenings at Intramuros telecasted at NBN 4.
Not just singers but performers in the real sense of the word, the members strive to maintain a distinctive style, sincerity and character, qualities that make them one of the enduring and ranking youth choirs and artists of its community and country as well.
Aurelio D. Manalo, Jr., Conductor
A computer engineer by education, an accountant by profession, a journalist in practice, sports enthusiast during past time and a musician by heart and still, this may be too modest a description for those who really know him.
Bobet, as his friends fondly call him, received his college degree at Mapua Institute of Technology and his masters at De La Salle University and his music rudiments in University of Sto. Tomas under the auspices of NAMCYA Foundation.
Under his baton, the STC Children’s Choir, the STC Cherubim, the STC Faculty Chorale and the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish Youth Ensemble of which he is the resident conductor, have been champion year after year in different choral competitions. These choirs have been known as one of the best if not the best choir in their own categories.
Tucked in his belt is a couple of National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) titles; the STC Children’s Choir and the STC Cherubim never lost a NAMCYA title in the division level since 1992; these groups’ inclusion in the 1998 and 1999 National Finals respectively; a slot in the 2000 NAMCYA festival and as a National qualifier in the 2002 and 2005 NAMCYA; recently, STC Cherubim was awarded Gold III and eventually won the championship in the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod VII held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last June 2009.
Bobet also wrote and directed cultural presentations including; “Sanduloy: Sulyap sa Kulturang Pinoy”, “Mga kuwento, awiting bayan atbpa.”, “Musika ‘Yan” and the centennial presentation “Sa Pagpula ng Silangan”. He is also the musical director of the musical play “Ala’y Kaya Pala!”.
This man of vision never tired of building not just an ordinary group but a family where everyone can develop into something new, something different, something extraordinary and something that will bring him/her to the fullest.
