Festival Excitement RemainsJuly 3, 1996Music fills the air throughout Powell River as the town resonates to the sounds of the International Choral Kathaumixw. According to Kathaumixw spokesperson Kay Matterson Wednesday morning, there are still tickets left for all of the remaining eight concerts. There are three concerts tonight, at 8 clock, at Brooks Hall (Opam. Ecuador; Laudate, Canada; Kiimingen Kirut, Finland; and Cantabile Chamber Choir, (Taiwan); Evergreen Theatre (Powell River Chorus; Spevacky Zbor, Slovak Republic; and Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra), and the Great Hall (Bloemfontein Children's Choir, South Africa, University of Ottawa; Mama Mulberry, Japan; and Szczecin University Choir, Poland). Friday features three concerts at 3:3O p.m. at Brooks Hall, Evergreen Theatre and the Great Hall while Friday's sole 8 p.m. concert features winners from the week of competition. The Gala Closing Concert, featuring guest choirs, the 1,000 voice Kathaumixw choir, Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, soprano Leslie Fagan and baritone Steven Price, is 8 p.m. Saturday. As of Wednesday morning about mainly general seating remained for the closing event. Matterson noted a rush for tickets Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday as Kathaumixw excitement hit home. Friday's 9 a.m. competitions at the Great Hall are open to the public with free admission.
