During the week of International Choral Kathaumixw, the
excitement and energy of the Festival can be felt throughout Powell River.
Concerts are held in many different venues around town, and this serves to
spread the music around. As a result, visitors get lots of interaction
with local community members, and the locals have the opportunity to
experience the magic of the festival. Each of the concert venues offers
something different and special to the choirs and their audiences.
The main venue for International Choral Kathaumixw is the
Powell River Recreation Complex. Here participants can access two of the
performance venues, including the Evergreen Theatre and the Great Hall, as
well as an assembly hall, conference rooms, offices, Internet, food
concessions, a swimming pool, sauna and exercise rooms. The Complex is
located near Powell River’s centre, but it is surrounded by natural beauty
and walking trails. This facility offers festival participants a
comfortable, convenient place to meet, relax, perform and socialize.

Great
Hall - Recreation Complex
The Kathaumixw Gala concerts are held in the Great Hall.
Over a period of weeks before International Choral Kathaumixw, the Great
Hall is transformed from a community arena into a concert hall to
accommodate the festival’s large events and the common song performances
which feature the combined voices of more than 1500 Kathaumixw
participants. Dozens of volunteers work tirelessly to ready this venue,
erecting structures and even adding a false ceiling to create the best
sound quality possible. The Great Hall has a seating capacity of 3000.

Dwight Hall is one of the historic landmarks of Powell
River. Built in 1927 by the company that owned the local pulp and paper
mill, the hall has been used since its beginnings as a concert venue and
dance hall. This heritage building, made of wood, has “cathedral-like”
acoustics and is a preferred venue for singers. It is also the home of one
of Powell River’s most popular musical traditions: the Carols by
Candlelight Christmas concert, performed by the internationally acclaimed
Powell River Academy Choirs.
Dwight Hall, with a seating capacity of 400, is an
intimate setting for many international concerts during Kathaumixw.
