The Elmer Iseler Award

This new award 'Best Performance of a Canadian Work' is given in memory of Dr. Elmer Iseler by Mr. & Mrs. W.J. Vanderhoevan. Dr. Iseler, founder and conductor of the Festival Singers of Canada and the Elmer Iseler Singers, was
a champion of Canadian choral music through recordings, performances,
commissions and conference workshops. His work has left a lasting impact on
choral music in Canada. |

The Choir of the World at Kathaumixw Award Sympaatti Choir (Finland) |

Travelling from Finland, Sympaatti Choir is making it's second appearance at
Kathaumixw. All members of the choir are in music classes in Tampere high schools. Over the past years Sympaatti Choir has toured many European countries. Sympaatti was established and is still conducted by Pekka Nikula. Mr. Nikula has been working as a teacher and a principal in music classes in Tampere, Finland since 1976. In that time he and the the choirs have made 15 television programs, music cassettes for schoolbooks, several radio programs and recordings with Finnish artists and orchestras. Mr. Nikula has also worked as an artist director of choir camps arranged by the Association of Finnish Youth Choirs and is a member of the administrative board of that association. |
