Young People’s Chorus of New York City
The Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC), the resident choir of both the 92nd Street Y and WNYC, New York public radio, has distinguished itself as one of the finest youth choruses in the city. Under its founder and artistic director Francisco J. Núňez the multicultural chorus with a membership of more than 300 young people from ages 8 – 18 in five choral divisions has sung everywhere from Carnegie Hall and the White House to Smetana Hall in Prague and St. Martin in the Fields, London. In 2002 they won first place in the children’s chorus division of the International Choral Kathaumixw competition and went on to receive gold medals at the Choir Olympics in 2004. In the summer of 2005 the chorus was one of only two U.S. choruses invited to represent the U.S. at the Seventh World Symposium in Kyoto, Japan. In association with the NYC Department of Education, YPC provides its award-winning choral program to an additional 700+ children through its Satellite Schools Program with 14 choirs in 10 New York City public schools.
