Surrey Youth ‘Chamber Choir’

In 2002 the Surrey Youth ‘Chamber Choir’ was created, as an addition to the Surrey Children’s Choir ‘Family’ of choirs. These young voices are heard often at civic and community events and have appeared live on CBC Radio.  The ‘Chamber Choir’ has annually taken top prize in the Kiwanis Fraser Valley International Music Festival and has received Gold Standing at Musicfest Canada.  In May, 2006 and again this year they won 2nd Prize in the CBC National Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs aired ‘live’ across Canada. 


Stephen Horning

Founder/Director of the Surrey Children’s Choir, Stephen Horning graduated from the University of Victoria majoring in composition, piano and choral studies.  He has studied conducting with Eric Ericson, Elmer Iseler, Sir David Willcocks, John Tuttle, Doreen Rao, Jean Ashworth Bartle and Bruce Pullen.  Mr. Horning founder the Campbell River Children’s Choir and has conducted the North Island Choral Society, the Douglas College Children’s Choir and the Surrey District Honour Children’s Choir.  He and his wife Marisa Gaetanne were co-recipients of the 1999 Willan Award for Outstanding Service to the British Columbia Choral Federation.
