Kotori Choir

The Kotori Choir from Narita, Japan has received many excellent reviews for their singing.  It is remarked that the singers voices are completely in control  resulting in beautiful unified harmony with vocal transparency.  The choir’s repertoire ranges from up-to-date musical numbers -  hymns, cinema songs, folk songs, pop and classical pieces.  They also perform song and dance to introduce Japanese culture such as traditional Japanese dance, nursery rhymes and folk songs. The Kotori Choir, mainly consisting of elementary school students, has won awards at the All-Chiba Junior Chorus Competition and the All-Japan Junior Chorus Festival.  In 1996 the Kotori Choir gave its first overseas performance in Helsinki, Finland.  Other overseas appearances include Germany, Austria, USA, Poland and Hong Kong.

Machiko Takahashi

The founder of Kotori Choir Machiko Takahashi graduated from Tokyo Music University in 1972 majoring in Vocal Music and attended a graduate course in 1974.  She has performed as a soprano vocalist with orchestras in Japan National Radio four times.  Ms Takahashi has helped numerous students to study music at universities as vocal teachers.  She founded Kotori Choir in 1990 and currently conducts three choirs – the Kotori Choir as well as two ladies choirs.  She is also a vocal coach at Sakamoto Music School, Tokyo, Japan.
