Klarup Girls' Choir

Ever since 1980 choral singing has played an important part in the lives of many girls from Klarup, Denmark.  Over the years these singers have contributed to the creation of one of the finest female choirs in the country.  An infectious delight for singing combined with considerable musicality and a varied repertoire has meant Klarup Girls’ Choir has made a considerable name for itself, both at home and abroad during numerous concert trips and tours.  The choir is renowned for its large and varied repertoire of secular songs and church music and has performed with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and the Danish Radio Light Orchestra. Klarup Girls’ Choir frequently participate in radio and TV broadcasts and represent the city of Aalborg and North Jutland region at official functions. They have won the youth category for female choirs ten times in the Danish national choir competition “The Song Contest from Coast to Coast”.

Jan Ole Mortensen

Jan Ole Mortensen has been conductor of Klarup Girls’ choir since 1980.  By profession a music consultant and teacher, Mr. Mortensen has been a choral singer since the age of nine  and at the age of 20 had already formed his first youth choir.  He subsequently started the Klarup School Choir in 1970 followed by an adult choir for mixed voices in 1976.  In 1978 he founded a choir school for aspirants to the school choir.  Jan Ole Mortensen is a full time music adviser to the Aalborg Education Department with contact of more than 50 youth and children’s choirs.  He received the North Jutland Regional Council Merit Award for services to music in 1992.
