Girls’ Choir “Ellerhein

September 14, 1951 is considered to be the birthday of the Tallinn Children’s Choir which was founded by Heino Kaljuste (1925-1989). In 1969 the choir was renamed, “ELLERHEIN”. The list of “Ellerhein’s” international achievements is imposing. Most recent awards are the 1st prize – Giessen (Germany) in 1990 and 1997, Tolosa (Spain) in 1990, 1997 and 2000, Nantes (France) in 1993, Tallinn (Estonia) in 1994, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005, Arezzo (Italy) in 1994, Ankara (Turkey) in 2005; Grand Prix’s – Nantes (France) in 1993, Takarazuka (Japan) in 1995 and Europe Grand Prix in Tolosa (Spain) in 1997. The repertoire consists of works by famous Estonian composers Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, Gustav Ernesaks, Urmas Sisask, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Cyrillus Kreek and also world-famous composers from all over the world. Ellerhein has made many outstanding recordings. The New York Times named the record „Peer Gynt” (Virgin Classics) by Girls’ Choir “Ellerhein”, Estonian National Male Choir, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Paavo Järvi the greatest surprise of the year 2005 in the category of classical music.  This is the second time Girls Choir Ellerhein has attended the International Choral Kathaumixw.  Their first visit was in 1988.

Tiia-Ester Loitme

In 1970 Mrs. Tiia-Ester Loitme started to work as the assistant conductor and since 1989 she has been continuing Heino Kaljuste’s life work as the chief conductor of “Ellerhein”.
The assistant conductor and music theory teacher is Mrs. Ülle Sander, the accompanist is Ms. Katrin Kuldjärv and voice training is by Ms. Ester Lepa. The choir and its conductors have promoted the spread of musical literacy through the application of the Kodaly tonic sol-fa method.
