Transfiguration Cathedral Archbishop Choir

The Ukrainian choir Transfiguration Cathedral Archbishop Choir has a repertoire of more than three hundred Orthodox sacred songs. The twenty member choir which includes five soloists sings regularly at the church services in the Sumy Cathedral and at community events. It has been a prize winner in the regional festival of Orthodox Sacred Music “Vvedenskiye Vechera” In 2003 and 2004 they received the Grand Prize. Repertoire includes songs by many Ukrainian composers such as D. Bortnyanskij, H. Chesnokov, A. Arhangel’skij, A. Kastral’skij. They also present the rarely performed “The Great Word Praising” by Strumskij and “Confession” by A. Vedel.

Alexander Stachevich

Alexander Stachevich is head of the faculty of the vocal arts in Sumy’s University and regent of the Archbishop’s Choir. Dr. Stachevich graduated from the State Pedagogical Institution of Music (Russian Academy of Music, Moscow) as an opera and concert soloist and a vocal teacher. In 1993 he obtained his Master’s degree of Art Criticism and in 1997 received his Doctor’s degree.
