Iowa Youth Chorus

Over 400 auditioned students between the ages of 8 and 18 and coming from 19 counties in Central Iowa, USA are involved in the Iowa Youth Chorus organization that was founded in 1981. Last year the choir's season included a tour of the Deep South, with concerts in Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, Asheville and Chattanooga. Other appearances included a concert for the Chariton Concert Series, a radio broadcast and a concert in the "Music under the Stars" series on the steps of the Iowa State Capital. This is the second time they have been in Powell River; they were awarded first prize for Children's' Choirs at the 1992 International Choral Kathaumixw. Choirs have also toured Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Venezuela and Scandinavia.
Barbara Sletto
Barbara Sletto completed her Master of Arts in Music Education with a Kodály emphasis from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota. She is also trained in Orff and Dalcroze methodology. Ms. Sletto has given workshops and in-services for teachers in the Midwest, teaches a Kodály
certification course and has fulfilled twelve commissioned works for
treble choirs.. As a specialist in the child voice and children's choirs
she is often asked to serve as a guest clinician and conductor.
