Colin Balzer
One of Canada's emerging young lyric tenors, Colin has appeared as soloist with virtually every major choral organization in Vancouver. Having completed his studies at the University of British Columbia, he is currently based in Germany where he is studying with Canadian soprano Edith Wiens.
This past summer he attended the prestigious Franz Schubert Institut in Baden, Austria. Recent performances include being featured on a recording with the West Coast Mennonite Chamber Choir, the role of Spolletta in the Opera de Quebec production of Tosca, a solo recital for CBC radio's West Coast Performances, performances of Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 with both Pro Coro Canada in Edmonton and Festival Vancouver, Elijah with the UBC orchestra, and roles in Festival Vancouver's production of Monteverdi's Orfeo.
In March of 2002, Colin performed his first Don Ottavio in the Opera de Quebec production of Mozart's Don Giovanni under the baton of Bernard Labadie. Mr. Balzer performed and was on the Jury at Kathaumixw 2000 and gave a recital at this year's Powell River Academy Concert Series.
